IRA GENERANS

spazioSERRA is pleased to invite you to the Public Program inaugurating the new exhibition season, IRA GENERANS. This theme invites reflection on anger as a necessary and natural reaction to injustices and oppression—whether social or personal—serving as fuel for change and everyday transformation. It calls on artists and collectives to legitimize anger through their artistic practice, interacting with the unique characteristics of an ever-changing exhibition space that daily absorbs new emotions, stories, and sensations.

During the event, the audience will have the chance to explore and delve into artistic and editorial projects related to the theme of anger, presented in its many facets. For two days, spazioSERRA will transform into a place of encounter and reflection, hosting stations dedicated to independent editorial initiatives, artistic performances that will bring the space to life with powerful gestures and narratives, and in-depth talks designed to foster open and participatory dialogue with the public.

The two evenings will be curated by the editorial and cultural projects

PESSIMA
Performance Pretty as fuck: a study on my erotic self by Luca Frati

Luca Frati’s proposal stems from her personal reflection on the theme of anger, placing it within a broader discourse on the pornification and objectification of Trans and queer bodies. What emerges from her performance is a Trans* subjectivity distorted through the lens of the cis-heteronormative gaze—a body moving within a stage space built around it and rich with references to the pornographic imagination and digital spaces. Bringing this imagery to the stage is an attempt to reclaim one’s freedom as erotic, sexual, and sexualized beings—without this being the only way to exist, but rather one among many. In this way, the performance generates a tension between gazes: that of the performer and that of the audience—a tension that speaks of desire and the power dynamics it entails. The intent is to rebel against an imposed canon and reclaim one’s erotic potential.

SARA LEGHISSA X LAY0UT MAGAZINE
Action/Performance Pretend it’s a toilet by Sara Leghissa x Lay0ut Magazine

Pretend it’s a toilet invites audiences to gather and wait outside a public restroom—a space regulated by gender binarism and used here as a device to explore how certain bodies (non-conforming to the norm) are constantly subjected to dynamics of control, power, and over-determination by normed bodies. On this occasion, responding to Lay0ut Magazine’s invitation to write and produce an article on the work, we will present the project in a special format within the context of spazioSERRA, to narrate and share some of the practices behind the work. Pretend it’s a toilet is structured around a text printed on the clothing worn by the performers. We invite you to join us and take part in the project through a shared practice of engaging with the text. You will have the opportunity to select and have one of the text’s contents printed onto the clothing you are wearing, reinforcing the idea of multiplying the message in public space.

MOSAIKO
Interview “Rage against Humanity”

Centered on the theme of “Ira Generans” and how it unfolds through opposing realities such as acts of activism and artistic performance, the interview will be a dialogue between two contrasting yet similar life experiences: on one side, Sanduni, exploring self-discovery through artistic expression and activism; on the other, Gaudì, showcasing a powerful mastery as a comic artist. Using “Q&A” cards, the exchange will take the form of a mutual interview, fostering an intimate and open conversation about the power of anger in the lives and contrasting worlds of these two second-generation artists.

Dance Performance: “Anger Energy” by ANATHIA
The second part of the event will focus on the expression of “Ira Generans” through a dance journey performed by international artists: the artistic movement duo ANATHIA and freestyle Hip-Hop artist Mosey. Through a freestyle movement performance, they will bring their personal interpretation of what “Ira” has created in their lives and artistic careers, offering unique visions and movements connected to the surrounding space.

Performance by Akadre: “Over”
The third part of the event is dedicated to a musical performance by Akadre, presenting his new single set to release in the upcoming season. This performance will symbolize the expression of “Ira Generans” in Akadre’s life and art, and how the very concept of anger has fueled the creation of his music, art, and beyond. Andrea Amponsah, founder and creative director of Mosaiko Magazine—a project born from a concept of “Ira Generans” during the challenging pandemic period—will bring some of his life’s work to the “stage,” reinterpreting the concept of “Ira” in his creative process.

DJ Set: From the Caribbeans to Milano, with Love by Bxxmbastic and Eldon (B2B)
Two of the most electrifying and prolific talents Mosaiko, Bxxmbastic and Eldon, will join forces for a culturally blended performance. They will close the evening with an energetic yet soulful DJ set, blending the rhythms of the Caribbean and South America that have shaped their DJ careers and artistry.
